Mr. Rivers holds dan (black Belt) grades in Karate Do, Kempo Jutsu, Iaido, Jujutsu, and Tanjojutsu.

Mr. Rivers has led the dojo for nearly 20 years, making AKK Shin Dojo the longest running martial arts establishment in the Stafford/ Fredericksburg area. Mr. Rivers has trained with many of the foremost authorities in the traditional Japanese and Okinawan martial arts of Karate, Jujutsu, traditional weaponry, and Japanese swordsmanship. Students have included children and adults of all ages, Federal, State, and local Law Enforcement personnel, and all branches of the military. He has trained in Okinawa, Japan, Europe, and all over the US. He has taught throughout much of the US as well as in Europe. Mr. Rivers travels yearly to Japan to receive continued specialized training.

Sensei Rivers introduce Kempo-Karate and Jujutsu as a for credit Physical Education class at Germanna Community College in Fredericksburg where he taught from 1998 to 2000.

As an international and national champion in karate, Mr. Rivers has received countless awards from international tournaments, seminars, and championships. He was honored by the US House of Representatives, the US Senate, and the Virginia Senate for his World Championship performance at the IKF World Championships in 2003 in Bucharest, Romania.

Each discipline is taught weekly at the dojo where he teaches 6 days per week. One or all disciplines are available for study in regular classes.
